Text of report by Iranian TV on 14 January

In a meeting with a German deputy foreign minister [State Secretary in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Wolfgang Ischinger], the Islamic Republic of Iran's ambassador to Germany has rejected any kind of interference in Iran's domestic affairs. Our correspondent reports from Germany:

[Correspondent - recording] In a meeting with the German state secretary today, the Islamic Republic of Iran's ambassador to that country rejected any kind of interference in Iran's domestic affairs and said such interference was against the independence and dignity of our country.

During the meeting which took place this afternoon after the German State Secretary in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Mr Ischinger invited the Iranian envoy, the German side expressed his and his country's concern
over the court verdicts on those who had taken part in a Berlin conference and called on the Islamic Republic of Iran's Foreign Ministry to take action over that matter.

Our country's ambassador to Germany stressed that the Islamic Republic of Iran's Judiciary and its rulings were independent, and emphasized that such sensitivity shown over the verdicts on [participants of] the Berlin
conference was considered as interference in the domestic affairs of Iran and it would be better for both sides - considering the significance of the relations between Iran and Germany - to focus their efforts on the deepening of relations and drawing up new chapters in mutual cooperation.

While the German and Western media reported the cancellation of a visit by German Chancellor Schroeder to Iran, during his meeting with our country's ambassador, the German state secretary said that those reports were baseless. He [the German official] added that an exact date had not been decided for a reciprocal visit by the German chancellor to the Islamic Republic of Iran, therefore, to speak about the cancellation of the visit is baseless.
