Students of the "Medical & Science University of Jahrom" (Fars province)sized the occasion, offered by Mr. Khatami's visit to the region, to issue a Public letter condemning the persistent Human Rights abuses in Iran and
the lack of courage of the Islamic president.

Part of their Public letter states:

" Your government claims to support the expansion of fair relations at the national and international levels. However, without the assistance and coordination of a sympathetic, knowledgeable and well-versed nation which is allowed to criticize, the government will not achieve anything...

You know better than us that the University academic staff and students are facing unforgivable tyranny and unfair treatment (from the regulations governing the establishment of Islamic associations and universities, signed by Your Excellency, to the tragic state of communication, research,
Internet, publications and other facilities in the era of "dialogue among civilizations").

You enjoy the support of 20 million voters as well as the harmony of the state-leadership. How could you say that you lack the authority?

If there are truly some persons who create obstacles against you behind the scenes, why are you not exposing them to the people?

How was it possible to imprison the students who were injured during the attack on Tehran University's dormitory, whereas their attackers were charged with theft only?

In accordance with the law, the Majlis deputies are free to express their views. How come they are being prosecuted for exercising this right?

How come the independent popular press, which are the only link between the nation and the government, are banned?
