SMCCDI News Service January 25, 2001 Manouchehr Mohammadi, an imprisoned Student leader, has requested for a Public re-trial in an Open letter addressed to Mr. Hashemi Shahroodi, the Islamic Judiciary Chief. In his letter, wrote in his cell at Evin Political jail, the outspoken student has denounced the backwarded processes used by the Islamic Information officers, such as the Physical and Psychological torture of the regime's opponents, and has slammed the Islamic Judiciary for its silence while knowing the existence of such abuses. In part of his letter, he states: " I have been a prisoner and have been tortured in infamous places such as the "Tohid detention Center" which is supervised by the Ministry of Information.... Deprived of any basic rights, I was tortured in a way that thinking of it bring tears to my eyes. Tortures that I do not wish to write in this letter but ready to discuss with you.... I understand that we are living in times that Terror is ruling instead of the People's will but, despite of being a victim of torture, I'm still astonished by witnessing such backwarded processes in the same century that the Human Kind was able to visit the Moon and is planning to put feet on Mars... I'm requesting from you for my Public re-trial different than the show which leaded to my Confessions under Duress shown by the Governmental TV....". Mohammadi was arrested in the aftermath of the Islamic republic crackdown on the Student Uprising of July 1999, along with hundreds of colleagues and his brother. IP: Logged |
