Iran’s Ambassador said Tuesday that his country was determined to contribute to South Lebanon’s reconstruction, announcing that the
Lebanese-Iranian Joint Economic Committee would hold its February meeting in Beirut.

“The meeting will focus on general reconstruction ... and on finding more employment opportunities in the South,” Mohammad Ali Sobhani said after meeting Speaker Nabih Berri.

“This is one of our regular visits to the speaker and it was very useful,” the ambassador said.

Sobhani stressed that “the reconstruction of the South was at the heart of the discussions Premier Rafik Hariri had with Iranian officials during his recent visit to Tehran. This was also the focus of our discussions today with Speaker Berri.”

He said the upcoming joint meeting “will be dedicated to the reconstruction of the South.”

He described Syrian President Bashar Assad’s visit to Tehran on Wednesday as “crucial for bilateral relations between the two countries.”
