TEHRAN, Jan 25 (AFP) - President Mohammad Khatami said Thursday that Israel was the greatest threat and danger to the Muslim world and urged countries in the regioni not to forget that, the IRNA news agency reported.
Speaking to visiting Omani Deputy Prime Minister for Cabinet Affairs Sayed Fahd bin Mamud al-Said, Khatami said Israel represented the "biggest crisis, threat and danger in the region and in the Islamic world," the state agency said.
He underlined the important role good relations between Iran and Oman can play in establishing "security, calm and closeness between regional countries."
Khatami also warned against allowing "minor disagreements" between countries to lead them into "disregarding...common interests."
He stressed that the future of all countries in the region were linked to each other, adding that the "economic and political fate of the world was to a certain extent dependent on the region's fate."
Before ending his three-day visit, Oman's Said underlined that his government was interested in "developing and strengthening bilateral relations in all fields even further."
Said, who was accompanied by Foreign Minister Yussef ibn Alawi bin Abdallah and Oil Minister Mohammad bin Hamad ibn Saif al-Romhi, discussed regional and bilateral relations with Iranian officials here, including first Vice President Hassan Habibi and Foreign Minister Kamal Kharazi.
Political and economic relations have traditionally been good between the two oil-producing countries.
