Tehran, Feb 6, IRNA -- A military court is to resume Tuesday retrial on torture charges of a former police chief sentenced to jail and then acquitted on appeal, the government-run daily Iran said Tuesday. It said that former national police intelligence and security chief They are to be tried on charges of ordering torture, unlawful detention in solitary confinement and whipping prisoners. Naqdi was cleared of torture charges in the original trial, but sentenced to eight months in jail for slander and illegal interference in a corruption scandal in the Tehran City Hall in 1997. The junior officers were convicted of using force to extract confessions from the group of Tehran district mayors detained in the graft case.
