Mashhad, Feb 14, IRNA -- Some 27 million Iranians are receiving some kind of psychological health care, Health Minister Mohammad Farhadi said here on Tuesday.
He said that of the above figure, some 15 million are living in the cities while another 12 million reside in rural areas in a country populated by 62 million.
A new plan to reform medical care in the country was finalized in 2000. The plan provides for some 420 emergency medicare centers to be established by the end the Third Development Plan (2000-2005), Farhadi
He said his ministry was also planning to establish airborne medicare units on roads where traffic is usually heavy, such as in Tehran, Isfahan and Mashhad.
"Necessary arrangements have been made with airborne units of the army," he said.
He also said that some 2000 beds have been added to the country's state-run hospitals in the current Iranian year (started March 2000), saying this has boosted total bed capacity in hospitals of the country to 102,000.
