Text of report in English by Iranian news agency IRNA

Tehran, 19 February: Iranian Ministry of Defence announced Monday [19 February] that the allegations brought up by an MP about lack of supervision of the country's Prisons Organization over the jails of that ministry are baseless.

A communique issued by the Defence Ministry reads: "The particular jail referred to by this esteemed parliament member was officially opened by the then head of the Prisons Organization, Martyr Lajevardi, and a number of high-ranking judiciary officials."

According to the communique, the jail of the Intelligence Department of the Armed Forces, too, has always been under the direct supervision of the Prisons Organization, whose authorities regularly inspect the jail and have often announced their satisfaction over the methods applied in the management of the jail and in keeping of the inmates.
