TEHRAN, June 2 (AFP) - The director of a student magazine has been jailed after an appearance in press court, the governmental Iran paper reported on Saturday.

Mehdi Aminizadeh, director of the review Fourouq (Light), was ordered to jail after a hearing before press court judge Said Mortazavi, the daily said, without giving the date of his imprisonment.

Aminizadeh's sister said he was locked up following the arrest of several staff members of another student review, the paper reported.

Four students from the student review Kavir (Desert) were arrested in recent days following publication of a deliberately "blasphemous" article, according to press reports.

Under Iran's Islamic law, those convicted of deliberate blasphemy can face the death penalty.

In November 1999, Tehran's press court jailed three students for publishing a "blasphemous" play in a university magazine
