Iranians, across the World, declare support for the Students Uprising's commemoration

SMCCDI (Information Committee)
June 29, 2001

At less than 10 days before the deadline fixed by the Iranian Student Movement, Iranians across the World and specially inside Iran are declaring their support of the Iranian students and the their Uprising of July 9th, 1999.

So far and as expected, the Islamic regime has failed to answer to the official letter sent by SMCCDI (Iran Chapter) notifying the regime about its intention to organize the commemoration. The regime's silence takes place despite the big coverage made on this call by most abroad Media but also by the "Tose-e Daily", published in Iran, which mentioned, in its last Sunday edition, the SMCCDI letter to the Islamic Minister of Interior and the intention of the Students to participate in Monday's rally in Tehran and several other Iranian cities.

Reports from Europe and North America are stating about the formation of Local committees in several cities in order to organize meetings and rallies of support and condemnation of the bloody crackdown which took lives of several students 2 years ago in Tehran and Tabriz.

These Local committees have planned or are planning gatherings and rallies in cities, such as, Copenhagen, Stockholm, Frankfurt, Hamburg, Los Angeles, Dallas, Houston, Paolo Alto and several other cities for Sunday July 8 or Monday July 9. The gathering of Los Angeles, on July 8, 2001, has been organized by several Iranian groups, including SMCCDI, and will take place just couple of hours before the Rally starts in several Iranian
cities.

Several opposition groups and leaders have issued statements in support of the Iranian Student Movement and have cheered the Legacy of July 9, 1999, which shocked the World and showed the emergence of a "Third Force" pushing for "real Reforms" outside the "State Guided Reform policy".

For his part Prince Reza Pahlavi, in a communiqué issued today, stated: " It has been nearly two years since the student uprising of July 9th. The younger generation benefiting from the experience of two decades of peaceful resistance to the clerical rule is now taking the center stage in reflecting the demands of the Iranians for liberty and democracy.

Let us not forget that the repressive regime will exploit every opportunity to derail this peaceful movement by promoting discord and division among us. The regime will take advantage of every possibility to discredit and denigrate this movement.

Concurrently, I must reiterate that any partisan attempt to politically profit from this movement will come at the cost of our national goal: freedom and democracy.

The July 9th has been registered in the hearts and minds of every Iranian as a symbol of our national unity and thus it is beyond partisanship or ideological divide. July 9th belongs to all Iranians dedicated to liberty and democracy for Iran.

I call on the valiant people of Iran to continue their support of the student movement, which is spearheading our national quest for progress and modernity. This generation holds the future of Iran in its hand. Our unwavering support of this movement will further de-legitimize the regime.

I call on the young generation to press ahead with the non-violent national struggle, which will inevitably bring freedom to our beloved homeland...."
