BBC Monitoring Service Jul 14, 2001 Text of report in English by Iranian news agency IRNA Tehran, 14 July: President Mohammad Khatami on Saturday [14 July] called on university students to get acquainted with the beauty of the holy Koran. In his message to the 16th Holy Koran contest for Iranian university students in Kerman, the president said that the students are expected to learn Koranic way of thinking to pave the way for prosperity, salvation and human sublimity. He thanked God for witnessing that Iranian students have once again embarked on holding Koranic event and said that he believes that great strides should be made in promoting the standard of such events. "When human being gains access to the `fountain' of the holy Koran, it will enjoy the blessings of `sacred life'," the president said. "The Iranian nation has gained a lot from the great heritage of the holy Koran. Iran owes its bright prospects to the guidance that the holy book has offered to humanity," President Khatami said in his message read by Presidential Adviser Dr Paknezhad. IP: Logged |
