Text of report by Iranian newspaper Kayhan on 13 January
Hamedan - Kayhan correspondent: The worst injustice to workers is to permit the importation of goods into the country. Changiz Aslani, the executive secretary of Hamedan's Chamber of Labour, made the above
About 1,400 factories in the country have been closed down in a situation where we are to create a market for the sale of foreign goods for the benefit of foreigners, he added. He continued by saying that in Hamedan
He stated that so far, from the Chamber of Labour's labour supporting fund, a sum of 850m rials has been paid in overdue wages to the workers of the Nasim Avar and Sina Mushroom factories. Aslani pointed out that these measures are not a basic solution and the problem should be examined at its roots and that the factory closures and unemployment of workers should be prevented. He also said that it is strange that there is no one to listen to the complaints of these workers. However, when a newspaper is shut down they shout to protest, while with the closure of hundreds of factories no one says anything.
He then announced that in order to maintain and support production, and investigate the existing labour difficulties, seminars entitled "protecting domestic production" and "congress of the Chamber of Labour" will be held at the end of the current year.
