Letter From Editor
We Thank you
Many of our visitors who celebrated Sizdeh-bedar on April 6th 1997 in Los
Angeles and Orange Counties in California, U.S., saw the plane that flew
our banner, wishing happy Persian New Year from Iran Online. Some
also read the Los Angeles Times article about Iranians, Sizdeh-Bedar and
its mention of Iran Online plane flying the banner. We received many emails
in the days that followed. Some thanked us for promoting our traditions
so openly. Others were simply moved and felt proud when they saw the name
of Iran and Persia flying over southern California.
The number of Iran Online visitors is
increasing steadily. We currently have anywhere between 6,000 to
8,000 daily visitors (250,000 to 300,000) daily hits. This makes
Iran Online one of the most frequently visited Iranian Internet sites.
On the average we receive about 25-40 emails from our visitors every day.
These all make us feel stronger about
our commitment to Iran Online and our goals. We thank all of you for your
supports and interests. We welcome your participation and suggestions
as to how we can make this site more interesting and more informative for
our global visitors.
We Are Making
In the next few weeks, our site will undergo
a major change that will allow us to provide you with even wider range
of services. We will switch to a new computer operating system environment
that requires major software changes. We will do our best to avoid
any interruption in our services and make this transition transparent to
our visitors. One area that will undergo a major change will be the "Chat"
room. We will enhance its user options and
increase the number of chat rooms. We
are glad to make these changes since we are committed to provide you
with the best service. We only ask you
to be patient during the transition period.
Need To Know
Internet is a new and fast growing medium.
When used properly, it can be an effective vehicle for bringing people
of common interest closer together. Many of you have come to realize
this and enjoyed the free services of various Iranian Internet sites of
your choice. However, businesses that cater their services to our
community have not yet come to this realization and the popularity of Internet.
Therefore, they are not utilizing these sites for promoting their services
and products. We ask you to educate Iranian businesses about the
power and reach of Internet and ask them to advertise their services in
the sites that you believe serve our community best. This will
insure the existence and growth of your favorite Internet sites.
What goes around, comes around
What Is New?
Iran Online has been continually striving
to be the best it can be by offering the widest range of services to all
Iranians. We have added a new section since we published the last issue
of Iran Online Magazine. We now host a section that covers the work of
Ostad Hadi Parvarandeh, a well-known Persian energy healer. This
page is presented as part of the "Rainbow" section. We
invite you to visit this section. We have also expanded the literature
section and included poems from Sohrab Sepehri and Simin Behbahani.
All additions are listed chronologically and can be accessed directly from
the "What Is New" Section. We are currently working on new sections
that should become available for public viewing within the next few weeks.
We continue to extend our offer to be the Internet host for other publications
and home pages of Iranian cultural groups that may not have the expertise
or resources to go online. This is a service that we provide free of charge
to help promote the work of those who work toward advancement of our community.
As always the articles posted in this
issue are from a pool of materials provided by our viewers. We thank all
of you that sent us your articles. We also thank you and would like
to remind you that we value your opinion. Please continue to send us your
articles and comments.
